WHO WE ARE

We are students who attend JEMS Character Academy and we are in the Yellow Level. This year, we have been learning to grow in our empathy and compassion for people with hearing impairment in our community.

We hope you will enjoy our website, watch, learn and play games in our videos and grow in your compassion towards people who are deaf too!

The more we understand, the more we can be compassionate!

WHY WE CARE?

During the months from April to June, Yellow Level students have grown in their understanding and awareness of the needs and challenges that people with hearing impairment may face.

By empathising with how deaf people may feel, we have grown in their heart to be compassionate towards them in our community too.

COMPASSION IN ACTION:

Yellow Level students learnt the 'Do's & Don't's' in how to respectfully and compassionately treat people with hearing impairment in our daily lives. They also considered their challenges and designed creative inventions to help reduce such obstacles too!

Let's make a positive difference in the lives of those with hearing impairment.

Watch a short skit of some examples of how to show compassion and respect to people who are deaf!

Check out our student's wonderful inventions in helping those with hearing impairment too!

COMPASSION INTO ACTION:

LEARNING HONG KONG SIGN LANGUAGE

Learning sign language is one way to break the barrier to communicate with and to include those with hearing impairment more in our community.

To take a step into being compassionate, we enjoyed learning how to sign the alphabets, how to sign their name, and how to sign different animals in Hong Kong Sign Language.

Learn how to sign animals in Hong Kong Sign Language with us!

MEETING OUR GUEST SPEAKER

We had an amazing opportunity to interact with, play games and set their own questions to have an interview with Ms. Fanny Li, an educator with hearing impairment with years of experience in teaching young children who are both hearing and hearing impaired in schools and Ms. Mindy, from the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf as our Hong Kong sign language interpreter.

From this memorable experience, we gained a deeper understanding of people with hearing impairment, their experiences and life goals, and thus deepen their empathy and grow in their compassion towards them in our community.

COMPASSION IN ACTION: FUNDRAISING

HONG KONG ASSOCIATION OF THE DEAF

JEMS Character Academy has partnered with the charity - Hong Kong Association of the Deaf in previous years to teach children to have more empathy and compassion towards those with hearing impairment.

We hope that we can help fundraise money for this charity to help support those with hearing impairment. HKAD's mission is to provide comprehensive social welfare, medical and educational services to the deaf, hearing impaired, their families and other people with disabilities.

OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL:
