MAKE A DIFFERENCE: HELP PEOPLE IN POVERTY
ORANGE LEVEL | PRIMARY 6 STUDENTS
Campaign by: Miah and Yui Yi
WHO WE ARE
We are this year’s orange level, which is surprisingly only two of us. Throughout this semester, we’ve been learning more and more about different aspects of poverty, and I can say that we’ve learnt a lot about our community and those around us, and more stuff about ourselves that we previously never knew about.

WHO WE ARE ADVOCATING FOR
We are advocating for those who never had the opportunity, or were born with not enough. We advocate for those in need, or those who suffer from a lack of material, emotional, or relational needs. And we are also advocating for those who have no control over their current circumstances, and don't know where or how to start on getting themselves out, those who have long accepted the fact that there may be no hope for them.

WHAT WE LEARNT
We learnt about everything we missed out on, and everything we never managed to open our eyes to on our own. This unit was a complicated adventure of mostly realistion and initial shock at what was actually happening outside our own home communities, and how not everything that sounds good, actually is.
For example, we learnt about a shoe company, that was supposedly giving out one pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes bought, and at first it seemed like a fantastic idea, but it turned out that it actually harmed more than helped. At first, it sounded unbelievable that giving stuff out to the needy was actually harmful, but we learnt that the shoe company could've been giving out more than what was actually needed

WHY WE CARE
We care because it's important to spread awareness about what's currently happening, and the risks and factors that come with leaving the problem alone for the government or the country itself to solve, and along with the fact that the majority of people take things for granted that any person living in poverty would see as a blessing. We care because not enough people do, and not enough people know how to.

Many children (like us, previously) were taught that if we didn't pay attention in school, we would end up like the people on the streets, and we now know that that simply isn’t really true. Although it could happen that way, there are many other more common factors that cause poverty, but the other problems are often overshadowed and overlooked by the more complicated ones, and that leads to more people who don't know the full length of what’s going on, and automatically just think the situation is “unfortunate”.
