RED LEVEL | PRIMARY 3 STUDENTS

Campaign by: Aldrin, Alexus, Alicia, Andre, Archibald, Chace, Colette, Gavin, Josiah, Megan, Nathan, Nathen, Ryan, Solon, Stephanie, Tyrus, William and Yui Wing

WHO WE ARE

We are students who attend JEMS Character Academy and we are in Red Level.

“We are a place that changes peoples minds,” says Archibald. “We go to different activities to help the elderly, disabled people, and helps people exceed their dreams confidently.”

We are a group of creative, energetic, fun, and curious students learning to have perseverance, responsibility, perseverance, and compassion.

WHAT WE LEARNT

A physical disability is something that happens because they get in an accident, get sick, or it sometimes happens when they are born. It makes someone not able to do something. It limits someone’s ability to move and interact with the world.

- Andre, Nathan, Nathen, and William

A visible obstacle is something that you can see, for example stairs. It is hard for people with physical disabilities to walk down stairs, especially with crutches and wheelchairs. An invisible obstacle is something you can't see, for example people teasing somebody that has a physical disability.

- Megan

People with physical disabilities are also people. Even though they might look different from what you or I may look like, they can do amazing things too. We watched a video about people with physical disabilities doing amazing things like driving a car, playing the guitar, and playing sports.

We believe that people with physical disabilities can do anything. They may do things differently from you and me, but they have their own abilities too.

We can show compassion by accepting them. Knowing that being different is okay. Saying hello to them and including them in what we are doing. Asking them if they want to join in or if they want help. People with physical disabilities are just like you and me.

WHY WE CARE

OUR SOLUTION

Sometimes, we can be an invisible obstacle. We learnt that we can help people with physical disabilities by remembering these phrases "Being Different is Okay", "Talk to Me", and "Yes, I can".

Look at what we wrote and our video to understand more about these phrases.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1

Being Different is Okay

Be okay that we might look different, sound different, and do things differently.

We can do things in different ways to reach our goals.

Talk to ME

If you see someone with a physical disability, smile, say hello, and talk to them. S/He also wants to communicate with us.

2

Yes, I Can!

Everyone has abilities. People with physical disabilities can do things, just in their own way.

Give everyone a chance to try things for themselves.

3

Putting these things into action helps us to be more accepting of people with physical disabilities and grow in our empathy for them.

Share and Donate

Help us get the word out and inform more people about steps 1, 2, & 3.

Donate money to help more kids with physical disabilities know that they have abilities too and have the equipment they need to do it their own way!

THE SOCIETY FOR THE RELIEF OF DISABLED CHILDREN

SRDC sees someone with a physical disability and they help them get stronger until they’re strong and can do things by themselves. They help people get better, provide them with equipment, and help them become more confident. They also educate other kids letting them know that being different is okay and show them that we can talk to people with physical disabilities.
